Gina Corona was born into a union household in Brooklyn, New York. As a Teamster’s daughter, she learned to embrace the union values of fairness and labor respect. She became a union member and began her activism at age 16. Gina is a Social Worker 2 with the Office of Mental Health in Syracuse, New York, and is approaching 20 years of state service. She demonstrated sound leadership serving in elected and appointed positions: E-Board member for Hutchings, Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center, Central New York Psychiatric Center; Council Leader, Convention Delegate, and Credentials Committee member; Office of Mental Health Agency-wide Labor-Management Committee, Health & Safety Committee, Region 4 PAC Chair; the Justice Center Committee. She successfully advocated for an enhanced geo pay package for nurses, fought to prevent facility closures, and prevented layoffs. Gina promoted safe patient-staff ratios and served on the professional Committee, lobbying for legislation to limit Social Worker caseload. She actively promotes public awareness about the services PEF members provide to New Yorkers. As Regional Coordinator, Gina will continue fighting to protect the rights, respect, and dignity of PEF members.
