PEF members who carried over vacation accruals during the COVID state of emergency must use them before Dec. 31 or they will be forefeited. This applies only to hours carried over beyond the 40-day contractual cap each April from 2020 through 2023. It is very important that you put your requests in writing and document them. After the deadline passes, PEF will request such documentation from any member whose leave request is denied so that we can fight for you.
This is vacation time you EARNED — just like the paycheck you collect working for the people of New York. Letting any vacation time expire without using it is giving money back to the State.
