{"id":4492,"date":"2024-01-30T12:37:25","date_gmt":"2024-01-30T17:37:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pef.org\/?p=4492"},"modified":"2024-03-14T10:12:23","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T14:12:23","slug":"quality-of-work-life-grants-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pef.org\/articles\/contract\/quality-of-work-life-grants-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"PEF contract provides grant program to improve work life\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><em>February 20, 2024<\/em> &#8212; Through Article 14 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pef.org\/pef_files\/files\/pdf\/20232026CBA.pdf\">PS&amp;T contract<\/a>, PEF divisions can apply for a grant of up to $1,250 per year for certain kitchen appliances to improve breakroom\/lunch areas at facilities that do not have them or where they aren\u2019t in good working order.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Quality of Work Life (QWL) Grants Pilot Program is a reimbursement program that can be used to pay for coffeemakers, microwaves, or refrigerators; the size, type, and quantity is determined by the number of employees the area serves.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From January to April last year, 23 PEF Divisions took advantage of the grant program, which was inactive until now while the contract was negotiated and ratified, and the application process was finalized. In 2022, 28 PEF Divisions participated.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Division 167 Council Leader Patricia Moran said these grants improve morale for members.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe serve members from two important state agencies \u2013 the Office of Mental Health and the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities,\u201d she said. \u201cThis grant has provided needed items to enhance the lives of dedicated PEF members, including a small refrigerator where our EAP coordinator keeps bottles of water when she meets with staff in crisis, a microwave for a new breakroom in one of our Day Habs, and a Keurig we utilize while meeting with members,\u201d she said.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">More Divisions should be taking advantage of this program. It\u2019s a way to provide for members without using Division funds.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cIn the future, we are hoping that Divisions like ours, where we serve so many members in two different agencies, can qualify for a larger grant amount,\u201d Moran said.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Anyone can inquire about the grant, not just Council Leaders.
