{"id":4179,"date":"2022-01-11T09:10:06","date_gmt":"2022-01-11T14:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pef.org\/?p=4179"},"modified":"2022-01-11T10:52:23","modified_gmt":"2022-01-11T15:52:23","slug":"pef-statement-on-booster-mandate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pef.org\/articles\/press-releases\/pef-statement-on-booster-mandate\/","title":{"rendered":"PEF statement on COVID surge, telecommuting, booster mandates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>PEF President Wayne Spence issued the following statement on Jan. 11 in response to to New York&#8217;s COVID surge, booster mandates, and the lack of sufficient telecommuting:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew York State is inexplicably insisting on a mad dash to force workers into the workplace during the worst winter surge of the COVID pandemic.\u00a0 By the State\u2019s own reports, this is the worst spread of infection we have seen at any time during this pandemic, and health experts predict this surge has not peaked yet.\u00a0\u00a0Rather than allow its workforce to protect themselves, their families and the public from this surge by telecommuting as they did during previous surges, the State ignores this simple and effective strategy and, instead, chooses to broaden vaccine mandates, requires workers to wear masks all day at their desks, wastes its limited supply of COVID tests and now forces another dose of the vaccine upon its strained workforce.<\/p>\n<p>There is a simple and incredibly effective solution here which the State continue to ignore.\u00a0 New York needs to establish a robust telecommuting program that will truly protect workers and the public, as well as provide higher-quality masks (N95s or KN95s) for employees who cannot telecommute.\u00a0 Instead, the State appears more concerned about revenue than employees\u2019 lives.\u00a0 Governor Hochul should heed her own words:\u00a0 \u2018Let\u2019s learn from the lessons of the past and finally put this winter surge behind us.\u2019\u201d <em>(NYS COVID briefing, Jan. 10, 2022)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PEF President Wayne Spence issued the following statement on Jan. 11 in response to to New York&#8217;s COVID surge, booster mandates, and the lack of sufficient telecommuting: \u201cNew York State&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":2936,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[6,479],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-4179","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-press-releases"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.1 (Yoast SEO v27.1.1) -
