Rome NAACP awards PEF, council leader A. Philip Randolph award

At the 21st Annual Freedom Fund Dinner Oct. 5, the Rome branch of the NAACP presented Sametta Shaw-Lipiec and the New York State Public Employees Federation with the A. Philip Randolph Freedom Fund Award.
Shaw-Lipiec, a physical therapy assistant 2 at Central New York Developmental, is council leader of Division 189.
The award’s namesake, A. Philip Randolph, a renowned labor leader, conceptualized the famous March on Washington with Roy Wilkins, Executive Secretary of the NAACP, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.
The keynote speaker at the dinner was former New York Gov. David Paterson. Also in attendance was Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon.
