Region 9 coordinator reaching out to members
By SHERRY HALBROOK
PEF Region 9 in the Hudson Valley is a sprawling region that’s a challenge to navigate and bring its 5,000 members together.
So, Region 9 Coordinator Diane Jaulus has been on the road reaching out to members where they are to update them on what’s going on with their union and to answer their questions.
“Region 9 is a large region starting in Westchester County at the border of the Bronx and goes up to Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan Counties,” Jaulus said. “It has 11 state correctional facilities, Rockland Psychiatric Center and Rockland;Children’s PC with all their clinics. We also have members at the state: Departments of Labor, Transportation, Taxation and Finance, Motor Vehicles and Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; Access VR, Office of Management Inspector General, Office for People with Devlopmental Disabilities, Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services, the Veterans Home, and the SUNY campuses .
“We’ve started 2020 off with a bang. I’ve met many members who are dedicated to caring for and serving the citizens of the State of New York,” Jaulus said. Nevertheless, she added, she still has many more visits to make to cover the entire region.
“It has taken many hours and miles to reach the Region 9 members. My goal is to reach as many members as possible to discuss their concerns and provide as much assistance as possible,” she said.
“I can’t do this work alone. I need everyone’s help to continue to move forward,” the regional coordinator said. Council leaders, stewards and other local PEF leaders and activists can help identify upcoming membership meetings and events, and also alert her to divisions and worksites that have important issues they want to discuss with her.
“If you can help, please contact me at *protected email*. A small amount of time will make all the difference.
“Region 9 members proudly take care of the Hudson Valley,” Jaulus said, and PEF is here to take care of you.”
