Enjoy summer, and don’t forget to stay #UNIONSTRONG
I hope everyone is taking some time to enjoy the summer with family and friends, perhaps even attending one of the PEF Membership Benefits (MBP) Family Fun Days. In New York state, we are so fortunate to have access to some of the most beautiful lakes, beaches, state parks and mountains in the country, many cared for by our fellow PEF members.
One group of PEF members who remain hard at work this summer is the PEF Contract Team. They are, in fact, at the negotiating table as I write this message, continuing to advocate for your top priorities: compensation, including discussions on longevity pay, overtime and on-call eligibility, geographic adjustments, labor-management issues and permanence for long-term hourly employees. More details on the contract talks here.
I want to thank everyone who has been sending in photos for our #ASHTAG FRIDAYS campaign in support of the contract team. Your show of support really makes a difference and it is noticed by the governor’s team. In a few short weeks, members of the PEF Contract Team will be at Labor Day parades and events around the state. We hope you will all participate in a Labor Day event. It will not only give you a chance to speak with a member of the team, but will once again show the governor that we have our team’s back and offer continued and strong support as they fight for a fair contract that reflects the compensation and respect you deserve.
As well as preparing for Labor Day events, we are busy preparing for the 41st Annual PEF Convention. This year, we will be meeting in Albany at the new Albany Capital Center. We are excited to bring our delegates to Region 8 for the first time and we’re looking forward to another successful convention. Since I’ve taken office, we have completed all work before us and together my team and the dedicated delegates have plotted a roadmap for the union for the year to come. I, for one, am always impressed with the enthusiasm of the delegates and their willingness to re-commit to keeping PEF strong. In turn, I know they are sharing that enthusiasm with all of you since the numbers support the fact that the Janus decision only served to build our momentum, and I am happy and proud to report that PEF is stronger than ever.
Following the convention, we will have a complete wrap-up on convention news and we will, of course, keep you updated throughout the summer on the continuing contract talks.
Thank you for all you do! #UNIONSTRONG
