Support PEF member after family tragedy
PEF Division 169 member Tom Annal and his wife, Maureen, recently suffered serious injuries in a motor vehicle accident that claimed the lives of their young daughters, Maryella, 11, and Elizabeth, 9.
On September 3, the family was traveling on the New York State Thruway when they slowed for a lane closure and a pickup truck, failing to reduce speed, rear-ended their minivan. The accident occurred 45 miles west of Syracuse.
Maureen Annal continues to recover from a serious spinal cord injury at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Tom Annal was treated for a concussion and released with rib injuries, but the generosity of donors to the family’s GoFundMe page made it possible for him to remain at his wife’s side.
“Our family is humbled and thanks you all for your generosity, and the enormous outpouring of prayers and support that we have received from the community,” the campaign’s organizers, Jennifer Annal Bacon and Jennifer Canale Annal said on the crowdfunding site. “We have been touched by all the sentiments expressed. Your expressions of love and support are a true testament to how this beautiful family has touched all of our lives.”
The Annal family set up the GoFundMe to raise memorial funds for the girls and to offset expected significant medical expenses. The fund grew to $156,766 as of Thursday morning.
“Our union brother and his family suffered an unimaginable loss that no parent should endure,” said PEF President Wayne Spence. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Annal family during this difficult time.”
