PEF mobilizes to help members impacted by gas leak, explosion in Albany
Health and safety and field services staff at PEF Headquarters jumped into action after word of a gas leak and subsequent explosion in Albany forced evacuations of PEF members in nearby offices. With news of members standing outside in 20-degree weather, PEF staff spoke with the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations (GOER), which directed early departure for the impacted employees.
“We’ll be working on a preoccupancy plan later today,” PEF OSH Specialist Geraldine Stella said.
The rupture and subsequent explosion occurred near a grassy patch near the intersection of James Street and Maiden Lane, according to the Times Union newspaper.
There were no reported injuries.
PEF members from New York State Fire responded to the scene to aid with gas metering.
