FOURTH OF JULY – A TIME TO REFLECT, CELEBRATE
This July 4th, 2019, America celebrates the 243rd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In every corner of our country and in our own state of New York, we gather in town centers and wave flags in parades to recall the history we share, and also to honor the vibrant and enduring spirit of America.
Part of that spirit comes from our forefathers who fought to unionize. They played a paramount role in shaping America’s workforce, and providing the immeasurable benefits we enjoy today as public employees.
The labor movement always faces a daunting set of challenges, yet our history of solidarity shows these are not insurmountable. We need only to draw upon the perseverance of those before us who blazed trails that have continually expanded our horizons, and with that same spirit, we can blaze trails of our own for future generations.
On our Nation’s birthday, we come together to renew our appreciation for all who made our country great, and unite in the enduring spirit of America.
PEF President Wayne Spence, all the elected officers and PEF staff wish all members and their families a safe and blessed Fourth of July holiday. #WinningTheFutureTogether
