I am sure many of you have read or heard about the New York Times report alleging staff assaults of inmates in the wake of the June escape of two inmates from the maximum-security Clinton Correctional Facility. The New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) has responded by saying the New York Times report is completely one-sided. At this time, I think it is of the utmost importance for PEF to stand strong with our NYSCOPBA brothers and sisters. I am urging PEF members not to rush to judgement on this case and to wait for the findings of the inspector general’s investigation before pointing fingers. Let’s not do what others have done to us at times – judging before the facts are in or condemning a whole workforce by the actions of a few.
