PEF President Susan M. Kent on Capitol Pressroom with Susan Arbetter – Tuesday August 12th, 11:00 A.M.
PEF President Susan M. Kent will discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s Olmstead Decision on the Capitol Pressroom radio show hosted by Susan Arbetter on Tuesday, August 12.
Kent will speak about the important roles of PEF members who work and care for people with developmental disabilities, and the level of care they need and deserve. Kent will also discuss the union’s position on how the state should not relinquish its responsibility to provide quality public services to all the citizens of New York state.
The Olmstead Decision states that individuals with developmental disabilities must be provided with services in the most integrated settings. However, it does not mandate the closing of inpatient facilities.
Kent and other local PEF leaders had testified at a legislative hearing in Suffern on Monday, August 11 about the union’s concern to maintain quality care for those with developmental disabilities. The hearing was organized by state Sen. David Carlucci and Assembly Member Eileen Gunther.
The Capitol Pressroom airs at 11 a.m., and the streaming player is available at 10:55 a.m.
