Honorable Andrew Cuomo
New York State Attorney General
The Capitol
Albany, NY 12224-0341
Dear Governor-Elect Cuomo:
I am a state employee who will be affected by Governor Paterson’s December 31st layoff plan. I urge you to suspend the plan, reinstate laid off workers and reopen the early retirement incentive (ERI).
The personal impact of this layoff will be devastating for me and my fellow workers. (Insert information on the personal impact of the proposed layoff.)
While I understand the fiscal crisis facing New York, the economic impact of laying off nearly 1,000 state employees will ripple through the state’s economy, jeopardizing the fragile recovery.
By reopening the ERI, the estimated 1,300 employees who were denied the ERI could be given the opportunity to take the incentive and eliminate the need for more costly, economically and socially damaging layoffs.
I hope that as you take office on January 1st your first act as governor will be to recognize the value of the service and dedication of state employees who face the loss of their jobs, and the sacrifices we have made. I urge you to reopen the ERI so that the impact of any further job cuts on the state’s economy and my family can be minimized.
Sincerely,
