Start
now to shape results of ’08 races
By KENNETH BRYNIEN
It is hard to believe it. The autumn leaves have
just begun to change, but the 2008 federal election season is already upon
us.
For the first time in a very long time, New York’s voters have the real
opportunity to influence the presidential election. With the date of New
York state’s presidential primary moved up to February 5, 2008, New York is
now in the heart of the national primary schedule.
PEF is poised to take advantage of this opportunity. We have proudly
endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. She has earned our endorsement.
A political endorsement, especially a national one, is not something PEF
takes lightly.
We were looking for a candidate who recognizes the quality services provided
by our members and is committed to protecting the rights of employees, as
well as one who has demonstrated support for our members working in agencies
that depend on federal funding. Hillary Clinton gets high marks in all of
these areas. Her record of service in our causes has earned her our support.
Our PEF Legislative Office is working to develop opportunities for our
members in the campaign and we are encouraging our members to get involved
in the primary process. Delegate petitioning for the national political
conventions has already begun. Our endorsement will help raise PEF’s
political profile, not only in the state political arena, but in the
national one as well. It will give us a greater voice in state and federal
politics for the benefit of our members.
With your help we can work to make sure that more than the leaves are
changing.
