2012 PEF CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENTS AND ELECTION RESULTS
The following is a list of PEF's endorsed candidates and how they fared on Election Day. The vast majority of our endorsed candidates won. In the twenty-one highly contested races that PEF members worked the hardest on, our endorsed candidates won eleven of those races, an impressive record. In many of these races PEF's and other labor unions involvement was the margin of victory.
It is possible that the NY State Senate will now be controlled by the Democrats as they are ahead in 33 of the 63 Senate races. The races in the 41st and 46th Senate District are still undecided with our endorsed candidates in the lead. The party that will control the Senate will be decided by final count in these districts and which party the five "independent" Democrats elect to align themselves. No matter which party controls the Senate both parties are on notice that PEF will only endorse candidates that advocate for public employee issues and we will not endorse candidates that scapegoat public employees as the cause of the State's fiscal crisis and advocate policies that put an unfair burden on public employees in resolving the State's fiscal difficulties.
PEF needs to build on our Election Day victories by holding our endorsed candidates accountable for their votes on and advocacy for public employee issues. While a large number of PEF members did volunteer to work to help our endorsed candidates we need to build a stronger group of volunteers in each PEF region that will work to help elect PEF's endorsed candidates so a larger group of State legislators will advocate for public employees.
