Governor

Over the last four years, Governor George Pataki has made preventing layoffs of our members a priority - despite some very difficult economic times.  He has pledged to continue his job-security activities next year. 

Governor Pataki also has:

·       Worked with PEF to achieve permanent, automatic cost-of-living adjustments to state pensions;

·       Worked with PEF to eliminate the employee pension contribution for tier 3 and 4 members after 10 years of service; and

·       Pledged to take the steps necessary to restore the three sick days taken away from state employees hired after April 1^st, 1982.

State Comptroller

Alan Hevesi served in the New York State Assembly for 22 years.  Alan Hevesi is the only candidate for Comptroller who has actually been a Comptroller.  He’s the only candidate who has managed pension funds, and the only candidate who has audited government agencies. 

Alan Hevesi has:

·       Always been an outspoken supporter of the Civil Service system;

·       Continuously been a strong advocate for public employee pension systems; and

·       Proven himself as a very capable Comptroller through his work as the New York City Comptroller where he increased the pension fund by tens of billions of dollars.

·       Developed a comprehensive legislative and enforcement agenda to protect every New Yorker’s personal privacy and identity;

·       Sued big pharmaceutical drug companies that were keeping cheaper generic drugs off the market;

·       Took on HMOs that were improperly denying insurance claims; and obtained refunds and better healthcare for consumers.
