PEF Pride updates members
August marks the 3rd anniversary for the creation of PEF Pride, the committee that aims to embrace the diversity of the PEF membership, increase awareness, education and presence of LGBTQ issues at the workplace, provide a resource for members to learn about and advocate for LGBTQ issues, provide a safe space for members and their allies to give and receive social and emotional support, and foster leadership, personal and professional growth through collaborations.
During this time PEF Pride has met several times to develop a mission and vision for our group. Through meetings at the last two conventions and several throughout the year PEF Pride has created a logo, Facebook page and a banner for events. We have also created a mailing list that enables us to stay connected with members across the state.
In July PEF Pride had the opportunity to represent PEF at LGBTQ night at a Tri-City Valley Cats game at Joe Bruno stadium and throw out the first pitch. PEF Membership Benefits Program was a sponsor for the event and offered PEF Pride a spot at the event. Committee members in attendance included Kay Alison Wilkie, Owen Gilbo, Joe Ugino and Sheila Ambrose. It was at this event the new PEF Pride T-shirts made their debut. During the event members had the opportunity to engage with members and people who were at the game about the importance of our group and our allies. The committee expects to have T-shirts available for sale at convention this year.
Additionally, there will be a gathering held during convention to celebrate PEF Pride, the work we have done and to strategize about future events.
The committee would like to thank the leadership of PEF for supporting the important work of this group and for all the members and allies who stand with us.
