The Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Joint Health and Safety Committee and Joint Safe Patient Handling Committee were honored January 12 at the PEF-NYS Joint Health and Safety Conference in Albany with the 2018 Health and Safety Conference Agency Award.

• Dedication and perseverance in making health and safety a priority at the agency;

• Efforts in the development of health and safety programs to include training and education;

• A model of labor-management cooperation to include communication with the labor-management safety and health committees, department heads, supervisors, and others; and

• Proven interest in new approaches to safety awareness in the workplace.

The 2018 Agency Award recognizes the RPCCC Joint H&S and SPH Committee members: PEF Chair Bruce Jagroop, Roswell Park Chair Joseph Moslow, and all of the PEF and management members of the committees.

The award states: “The Health and Safety and Safe Patient Handling Committees at RPCCC have shown a dedication to improving working conditions for all. Labor and management work quickly and cooperatively to increase the safety of all employees. The SPH committee has been dedicated to complying with the Safe Patient Handling Law and is motivated to continue to foster minimal-lift techniques.

“The SPH Committee members worked together to develop and provide state-of-the-art training and equipment for safe patient handling. The committee is comprised of representatives from all departments and shifts to gather input from all staff.”

“The Occupational and Environmental Safety Team at Roswell Park leads a comprehensive approach to patient and employee safety,” said Roswell Chief Medical Officer Dr. Boris Kuvshinoff II. “The team’s focus on communication and responsiveness enables cooperation across the organization. We’re incredibly proud of them for achieving this recognition.”
