Help pass safe staffing legislation
May 9 is Nurse Lobby Day and an opportunity for all PEF-represented nurses to tell lawmakers why it is crucial and beneficial to New Yorkers to have a law requiring safe staffing ratios.
If you would like to join this movement with a coalition of nurses from other labor unions, PEF has provided transportation for members. Buses will leave from Long Island, Queens, SUNY Downstate, New Paltz, and from Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Utica. Pre-approved travel reimbursement will also be available from PEF regions where there is no bus service.
The day will begin at the Empire State Plaza where nurses will receive an orientation, a briefing on the legislation, T-shirt and informational packets. All lobby participants will be invited to the luncheon at the convention center featuring guest speakers and legislative representatives.
For nurses unable to attend, PEF is asking that you show your support by wearing the nurse solidarity sticker to work on May 9, or wear something red.
If you would like to reserve a seat on any of the buses, call 800-342-4306 ext. 344.— Deborah Miles
