PEF to nurses in every region: Let’s organize!
By SHERRY HALBROOK
Nurses in PEF can become so focused on their doing their jobs and providing the highest quality patient care, that their own needs get shortchanged. So, PEF is focusing on the nurses and their needs.
The PEF Nurses Committee and the PEF Organizing Department are planning a Saturday morning breakfast meeting for the nurses in each region of the state.
“We hope to get our nurses involved working together on the workplace and professional issues in their regions by establishing a nurses committee in every region,” said Nora Higgins, co-chair of the statewide Nurses Committee and coordinator of PEF Region 12.
A breakfast meeting was held in Region 9 late last year, and another was held in Rochester January 27 where a PEF Region 3 Nurses Committee was formed. So far, two more breakfast meetings have been scheduled:
• Region 4 – Saturday, March 17, at 8:30 a.m. at the Comfort Inn and Suites, 6701 Buckley Road, Syracuse; and
• Region 12 – Saturday, March 31, at 8:30 a.m. at the PEF Region 12 office, 1383 Veterans Memorial Highway, Suite 16, Hauppauge, NY 11788. To reserve your place at this event, call Debbie Niemczyk at 631-352-4461 by March 23, or email her at gro.f1521768132ep@211521768132ger1521768132.
It may be hard to believe now, but spring is on its way and PEF will hold its annual lobbying event on nursing issues May 8 in Albany. The PEF Nurses Committee also hopes to offer a pre-lobby day conference May 7. So, watch PEF’s website and Facebook page, and the April issue of The Communicator for more information as it becomes available.
