GO PUBLIC AD CAMPAIGN – The May 2005 PEF Communicator cover depicts a “Fat Cat” character and launched PEF’s first “Go Public” campaign. It focused on exposing private consultants and contractors who cut shady deals and wasted state tax dollars.
The all-media ad campaign highlighted the dangers of privatization and the benefits associated with investing in public employees.
“Go Public” went statewide, as PEF members and the general public began contacting their elected representatives and urged them to stop wasteful spending and to pass the PEF-supported transparency and accountability bills. The campaign was successful in achieving reforms with certain legislative bills. The fight against privatization continues today, as PEF keeps a vigilant eye on new and existing legislation that threatens public employees and the common good.
