JULY: Sunday, July 23 – PEF Membership Benefits Program (MBP) hosts a Family Fun Day for members in PEF Region 2 at Eldridge Park in Elmira from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Lunch served from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Dance Hall Pavilion. Call PEF MBP at 800-342-4306 ext. 243 to make your reservation. Free.

Tuesday, July 25 – PEF Region 12 members are invited to join the Marcum Workplace Challenge at Jones Beach State Park on Long Island. The event has raised more than $700.000 for Long Island charities since 2006. To register, call the PEF Region 12 office at 631-360-4360.

Monday, July 31 – The Annual Region 8 Lou Matrazzo Golf Tournament held at the Normanside Country Club in Delmar to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association – Northeastern New York Chapter. Contact gro.f1500957953ep@no1500957953toca1500957953 for details.

AUGUST: Saturday, August 5 – The Buffalo Zoo will be the site for a PEF MBP Family Fun Day for PEF Region 1 members. Lunch will be provided between 12 noon and 3 p.m. at the Zoofari Courtyard. The zoo is located at 300 Parkside Avenue. Register by contacting the Regional Office at 716-853-3100. Members will be admitted free of charge with their state identification card. There is a $5 parking fee.

Wednesday, August 23 – Monday, Sept. 4 – Enjoy the New York State Fair in Syracuse. If you go to the fair, make sure to check out the PEF booth near the center of the Progress Building. For PEF Region 8 members, free round-trip bus transportation will be provided on Thursday, August 24 for a member and one guest. Fair tickets ($4) must be purchased through PEF MBP to take advantage of the bus ride. Reserve your seat by calling 518-785-1900 ext. 215.

Saturday, August 26 – Another MBP Family Fun Day is scheduled at Seabreeze Amusement Park located at 4000 Culver Road in Rochester. The cost is $10 and includes admission, a large luncheon buffet from 12 noon to 3 p.m. in Grove B, beverages and face painting. PEF Region 3 members should call 800-342-4306 ext. 243 for tickets beginning July 12. There is a limit of six tickets per member or PEF retiree.

SEPTEMBER: Monday, September 4 – In Albany – PEF members are invited to attend a Labor Day picnic and celebration at Cook Park in the village of Colonie from 12 noon to 5 p.m. It is hosted by the Solidarity Committee of the Capital District. The event is free, and members are asked to bring a potluck dish, salad or dessert. The committee will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, a vegetarian dish and beverages.

In Brooklyn – Join your brothers and sisters in PEF on a float in one of the largest celebrations of Caribbean culture, the massive West Indian American Labor Day Parade. It starts at 200 Eastern Parkway and kicks off with steel band music, calypso and soca music. For more information, call the PEF Region 11 Field Office at 718-785-1699.

Friday, September 8 – PEF Region 8 members, retirees and their families are invited to participate in the annual Labor Day Parade. All area labor organizations assemble at Academy Park in Albany at 5:30 p.m. and participants march to the Corning Preserve where they enjoy refreshments, entertainment and solidarity.

Sunday, September 17– The 48th Annual African American Day Parade will take place in Harlem from 1 to 6 p.m. This year’s theme is “Salute to a Better Health,” a tribute to all health care professionals. PEF will be a part of this national parade that attracts 200 participating organizations and is the most renowned African American parade in the country. The parade route begins at Adam Clayon Powell Jr. Blvd. and travels from 111th Street to 136th Street.
