Third quarter special elections getting underway
Edward Bellamy was elected in June to fill a mid-term vacancy in PEF Executive Board Seat 485, which represents members of PEF Division 190B who work for the state Department of Taxation and Finance (Audit Income/Franchise and Audit-Transaction Tax) in PEF Region 8.
Third quarter special elections will be held to fill the vacancy in the post of Region 11 coordinator and the following other mid-term vacancies:
• Board Seat 45, which represents members working at the following state correctional facilities — Fishkill, Wallkill, Eastern, Woodbourne, Downstate, Otisville, Ulster, Shawangunk and Sullivan; and
• Board Seat 130, which represents members working at the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, as well as the Adirondack Park Agency and the Lake George Park Commission; and
• Board Seat 545, which represents members working in the following political subdivisions of New York state: Albany Housing Authority; Albany County Probation; and Allegany County.
The third quarter election cycle begins with the availability of nominating petitions July 12. Those petitions must be submitted by August 2. If more than one candidate is certified for an office, ballots will be mailed August 23 to constituents of that office. Those ballots must be returned to the American Arbitration Association by September 14, for counting September 15. — Sherry Halbrook
