Labor-management chairs hone their skills

February 2019 statewide labor-management meeting

Nearly sixty labor-management chairs and co-chairs were joined by regional coordinators January 25 for a full day of training and insights to perfect the art of representing members at the labor-management table.
PEF Vice-President Sharon V. DeSilva, Esq., chair of the PEF Labor-Management Advisory Council Committee, assembled an agenda that covered a myriad of topics such as Civil Service and legislative issues,  plus a panel discussion of current labor-labor management concerns. Participants exchanged their experiences and knowledge on topics such as privatization, agenda setting, protest of assignments, bullying, discrimination and the importance to finalize labor-management minutes.
“The PEF Labor-Management Advisory Council is a special forum where agency L-M chairs and co-chairs have the opportunity to study the art of the labor-management process,” DeSilva said. “It is a special place where L-M leaders discuss a plethora of issues surrounding the L-M process. These meetings are important as they provide a platform to network and learn from each other and our presenters. Our goal is to perfect the art of negotiating at the labor-management table, so we can address and resolve as many issues as possible on a local level.” — Deborah A. Miles
