Calling all nurses – On May 9!
Lobby to make safe staffing ratios a law
PEF is calling all nurses to be a part of Lobby Day, May 9 in Albany, to let elected lawmakers know this is the year to pass legislation that sets safe staffing ratios.
“This will be an extraordinary event and PEF needs to mobilize as many nurses as possible,” said PEF President Wayne Spence. “Each nurse has a story and is an advocate for change. We need members to stand up and be a part of this effort. If nurses want a reasonable number of patients assigned to them, help make this a law.”
The day will begin at the Empire State Plaza where nurses will receive an orientation, a briefing on the legislation, T-shirt and informational packets.
All lobby day participants will be invited to the luncheon at the convention center featuring guest speakers and legislative representatives. Following will be more appointments with legislators.
Bus transportation will be provided for those leaving from Long Island, Queens, SUNY Downstate, New Paltz, and from Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Utica. Pre-approved travel reimbursement will also be available from PEF regions where there is no bus service.
For PEF members and nurses unable to attend, PEF organizers are asking everyone either to wear red or a nurse solidarity sticker. Stickers will be available after April 7 by contacting the PEF Organizing Department.
For those who want to attend the lobby day, register by May 3 by contacting Morgan Primo at gro.f1493522408ep@om1493522408irpm1493522408 or by calling 800-342-4306 ext. 227. — Deborah Miles
