LISTEN UP! – PEF Member and vocational instructor James Tremper, and three inmates at the Wallkill Correctional Facility were interviewed by ESPN reporter Barry Abrams in October. The podcast for the “In The Gate” series began airing November 20 and focuses on the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation’s “Second Chances” program where inmates learn how to take care of retired racehorses. Tremper, who has been the farm manager for more than 30 years, said the program’s success has received national media attention, but more importantly it has been adopted by other prisons throughout the country as it has been proven to teach inmates how to give, rather than take. Shown are Tremper, retired thoroughbred Benny the Waiter, Brian McNair and Bilal Muhammad. The podcast is #348 and titled Horses for Humanity.
