PEF Trustee Maureen Kellman officiated at a commemorative service remembering the 35 PEF members who died as a result of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. Nearly 60 PEF leaders and staff listened as Kellman talked about being human, as she and a friend watched the towers collapse. She said those who were there never imagined the buildings would ever fall down. They did, and that day changed lives forever. Sherry Halbrook, editor of The Communicator, read the names of the 32 members who worked at the state Department of Taxation and Finance, and the three from the state Department of Transportation. Their names are etched in the PEF monument in Latham where the ceremony took place. Maureen Connor, a bagpiper, played at the event.
