Safety and Health Initiatives Program

SHIP

There are still monies available in the Safety and Health Initiatives Program [SHIP] under Article 18.4 of your contract.  The SHIP provides grant funding to assist agencies in developing safety and health programs. Representatives of the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations [GOER] and the Public Employees Federation [PEF] from the State of New York/ PEF Statewide Health & Safety Committee are available to assist in developing grant proposals. The grants can be used to support a variety of programs and training efforts to improve the safety and health of an agency’s workforce.  We will also suggest qualified program and training providers upon request.

 Examples of fundable projects:

 ·         Infection Control Certification Training
·
Workplace Violence Prevention Program
·
Back Injury/Ergonomics Program/Training
·
Bloodborne Pathogens and TB training
·
Supervisors’ Health and Safety Training
·
Right to Know Training
·
Emergency Preparedness/Response

We encourage multi-agency or statewide projects.  A project may include employees of other bargaining units as long as PEF-represented employees benefit from it.

The current contract expires April 1, 2007 and there are no assurances that any money will be available for these activities until a successor agreement is negotiated.

Please take advantage of this program while it is available.
