One Day IEQ Training

The State of New York/ Public Employees Federation (PEF) Statewide Health & Safety Committee is offering:

"Proactive Resolutions for Building & Indoor Environmental Quality Issues"

  • October 14, 2010 in Rochester, NY
  • November 18, 2010 in NYC
  • December 15, 2010 in Albany, NY

This program is open to both labor and management representatives on preventing and solving indoor air quality and contamination problems due to construction/ building renovations. In an office setting IAQ complaints are more often caused by a combination of conditions rather than solely due to a specific chemical contaminant. Ventilation, temperature, off-gassing of office materials, noise, and stress may impact workers health, resulting in symptoms such as headaches, irritated eyes or fatigue. Workers with pre-existing conditions such as asthma, chemical sensitivity or immune-deficiency diseases may be more sensitive to certain environmental conditions than others. H&S Committees, and on-site labor and management networks are crucial to dealing with IAQ issues quickly and effectively. The training program will cover the essentials of preventative measures, remediation practices, and building operations necessary to eliminate  or reduce the possibility for exposure to indoor environmental contaminants including asbestos, common chemicals, such as cleaning agents, paints or renovation materials, and others. Participants will design an indoor air quality action plan for preventing negative health effects related to indoor environmental contaminants, and focus on using H&S Committees and local L/M representatives to effectively address these issues.

Target Population: Health & Safety Committee members and Labor and Management personnel who deal with indoor air quality and renovation problems in various state agencies.

Hazard Addressed: Negative health effects from poor indoor air quality caused by renovation practices

The programs are open to all Labor and Management Chairs of the Agency Level Health and Safety Committees as well as building managers, supervisors, and other building related personnel. Each agency Health & Safety Committee is invited to send up to three (3) representatives to the program. Selection of participants shall be done through a joint consultation between the agency and labor chairs of the committees.
