Support workers: shop union-made this school year
Families are heading to retail stores with school supply lists in hand, ready to fill backpacks with pencils, notebooks, paper, and other necessities for the 2019-2020 year ahead.
The average family with children in elementary school through high school plans to spend approximately $696.70 this year, up from $684.79 last year and breaking the previous record of $688.62 set in 2012, according to the National Retail Federation. Families with college students expect to spend an average of $976.78, up from $942.17 last year and breaking the 2017 record of $969.88.
Those totals include clothing, electronics, shoes, and general supplies.
