Looking at the photos and videos of the path of destruction from Hurricane Florence in North Carolina, I can’t help but remember what New Yorkers, including myself, suffered during Hurricanes Sandy and Irene. I know only too well the devastation, loss and heartache extreme weather can cause.
Hurricane Florence is hitting coastal communities in North Carolina hard with record rainfall, causing flooded roadways, power outages, hospital evacuations, flooded water treatment plants and leaving thousands homeless in what the National Weather Service is calling the “Storm of a Lifetime”.
Governor Cuomo has deployed emergency personnel to aid in impacted areas and additional New York State response and recovery teams stand ready to move as needed.
As New Yorkers, and as members of the Public Employees Federation, coming together and helping others in need is what we do best and what makes us stronger. As we did to help our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico, Florida and Texas during last year’s devastating hurricane season, PEF has set up a Disaster Relief Fund to aid our brothers and sisters in the relief and recovery efforts for any areas in the path of Hurricane Florence.
I am asking you to please continue the generosity you’ve shown in the past by contributing to the PEF fund to help those impacted by the storm to rebuild their lives.
I know our thoughts and prayers are with the hurricane victims and the members of the brave rescue, recovery and relief teams. But prayers are not enough. Please donate to the PEF Disaster Relief Fund.
Through your generosity, I know we can make a difference.
The PEF Relief Fund is a registered 501(c)3 Public Charity with the IRS. As such, contributions to this fund are deductible under Section 170 of the IRS Code.
