PEF’s Legislative Efforts Leads To Veterans Pension Credit Bill Passage

PEF Members:
I am happy to report to  you this morning that after vetoing the bill two times in recent years, last night Governor Cuomo signed the Veterans Buyback legislation into law!  This law will allow honorably discharged service members with five years of existing public pension credit to purchase three years of credit for their military service. Current state law allows veterans who served in only certain conflicts to purchase pension credits. The new law expands eligibility to all veterans who work in the public sector.

I want to personally thank Jerry Jobson, Bruce Jagroop, Richard Fletcher, Dave Krobe and all the members of the PEF Veterans Committee who worked tirelessly for years to get this legislation signed into law, the PEF members and Veterans groups who lobbied for passage of this bill and then took it one step further by calling, emailing and faxing the Governor to let him know the importance of signing this legislation, and the sponsors of the legislation, Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and Senator Bill Larkin, who refused to give up on getting this bill signed into law.  Lastly, please join me in thanking PEF Legislative Director Greg Amorosi and his staff for their work to ensure this important legislation was signed into law.

PEF members, when we work together we can make great things happen.

In harmony,
Wayne Spence
PEF President
