45th Annual Legislative Conference Workshop

Title: “The Potential Impact of Friedrichs v CTA & Evenwel v Abbott on Working Class Communities and Public Sector Unions”  

Description: The forum will review the potential impact of two Supreme Court cases: Friedrich v. California Teachers Association and Evenwel v. Abbott. In particular, this forum will analyze how these cases affect communities of color, particularly women of color. Also, the panel will discuss the value of unions to the middle class and how public sector unions have helped minorities transition from the working class to the middle class. Additionally, the panel will discuss the need to build a Coalition comprising of all ethnicities, civil rights, and labor movements.
