Postmark death gamble legislation delivered to Governor

Dear PEF Member,

Senate Bill A.6045 / S 4141 , which is a very important item of legislation for PEF members, has been delivered to the Governor’s desk today. Once delivered, the Governor has ten (10) days to act by either signing it into law or issuing a veto.  That means you have the same ten (10) days to contact the Governor’s office and make your voices heard in favor of this legislation.   Currently, if your file your retirement papers and die prior to the system processing your paperwork (30 days) , your beneficiary will only receive the “In service death benefit”, which is three (3) times your salary.  A.6045/ S.4141 would allow the Comptrollers office to process the paperwork, as if you were still alive, so that the initial retirement payment you selected is payable to your beneficiary. This legislation is commonly referred to as the “Postmark Death Gamble.”

Contact Governor Cuomo’s Office today and make your voice heard. By telephone   518-474-8390   or  Email  and refer to A.6045 / S.4141.

If you prefer to write your own letter , it can be sent to :

The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo
Governor of New York State
NYS State Capitol Building
Albany, NY 12224
