Wayne Spence Speaks of Unity After Being Sworn-In as the Union’s Ninth President

Among a crowd of hundreds, including PEF Members, past PEF presidents, dignitaries from other labor unions and political allies, Wayne Spence was sworn into office as the ninth president of the New York State Public Employees Federation in Latham Monday, August 3, 2015.

Mario Cilento, president of the state’s AFL-CIO administered the Oath of Office to PEF President Spence, as well as to Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Hintz, Vice Presidents, Adreina Adams, Peter Banks and Nikki Brate, and Trustees Maureen Kellman, Sarah Lauser and Maddie Shannon Roberts.

Spence addressed the crowd and said his priority as the new president was to foster unity among PEF members to face the external challenges that are threatening the labor movement. He encouraged members to work as a team and to share their knowledge and wisdom. Spence also emphasized the importance of working in solidarity with all the other state labor unions.

Spence said he has been in contact with the governor and will work with his new team to foster a courteous relationship, and yet to show union strength as contract negotiations proceed.
