NO GIFT FOR NYS VETERANS THIS VETERANS’ DAY: GOVERNOR CUOMO VETOES VETERANS’ BUYBACK BILL

Governor Cuomo, late Friday, vetoed the Veterans’ Buyback Bill, which would have allowed public employees who served in the military during peacetime to enhance their pensions in the same way that wartime veterans can do now.  This legislation passed unanimously in the Assembly and near unanimously in the Senate.  But, the Governor admonished members of the legislature in his veto message, saying signing the measure into law would have cost the state too much money.  Click here to read the Governor’s veto message:

We thank the PEF Veterans’ Committee and all PEF members who advocated for the passage and signage of this bill.  We’ll be talking with you and our other community and union partners soon about strategies for the upcoming legislative session.
