Members Rally for Safety at OCFS

Rensselaer – In front of the state Office of Children and Family Services on Fourth Street, union members marched and shouted on a damp and rainy December 23, “What do we need? SAFETY!” Nearly two dozen activists including PEF President Susan M. Kent, Secretary-Treasurer Carlos Garcia, and other PEF leaders, members and staff joined forces with Civil Service Employees Association members to highlight the need for more safety at OCFS facilities. Local television crews were there filming the small protest. The rally was organized as a result of the arrest of eight residents of the state’s Brookwood Secure Center in Columbia County in connection with attacks on other residents and staff last week and earlier in the year.
