PEF Vice President – Sharon Desilva
Sharon Desilva, Esq., is an attorney at the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, for almost 18 years. She holds a M.S. in Criminal Justice, J.D. in Law and B.S. in Psychology and
Her experience and knowledge of PEF motivates her to make positive changes in PEF. Sharon wants to help all PEF members learn how to MOVE, meaning…MAKING OUR VOICES EFFECTIVE. She believes that all members are important, and they are all leaders in their own ways. She believes that every engagement activity with PEF members should be strong enough to affect powerful voices, which subsequently leads to effective ACTION. She wants to work on initiatives relating to employment concerns- hiring, promoting and retaining PEF members; revamping Civil Service system; addressing formal counseling matters, establishing a statewide voluntary Mediation program; working on effective Labor Management strategies, and more.
Sharon actively serves PEF members in many roles: Executive Board member, Labor Management Chair, Agency Level Health and Safety Chair; PEF Ethics Committee Chair; PEF Appeal Committee; OTDA EAP Committee, and PEF Black Caucus Upstate leader. She’s sponsored PEF Convention resolutions that became policy.
She is active in her community: Henry Johnson Charter School Board, Legal Committee Chair of Albany NAACP, Soul Rebel Performance Troupe actress, Panel member at the NYS Minorities in Criminal Justice Conference. Sharon loves PEF, and as her Executive Board motto says, “PEF Today, Tomorrow and Forever!”
